You love THE OFFICE, and I love THE OFFICE. I know, it’s awesome. But what did I have to do with it? Well, long before Steve Carrell ever read his first line as Michael Scott, I was part of a small satellite office for BBC Worldwide helping to shop the format rights to the original BBC version of THE OFFICE to a company called Reveille, who you might recognize as the producers on record of the American series for NBC. The original BBC series attracted a cult following made up of some of the best comedy minds on the planet from the moment it first hit the airwaves. In fact, I once answered a call from Matt Groening’s office at THE SIMPSONS asking me for bootleg VHS copies of the original series of THE OFFICE starring Ricky Gervais, because at the time, that was the only way you could see it; YouTube didn’t even exist yet, let alone Netflix. So yeah, me and THE OFFICE go way back.
